Class 5 2018 - 2019

Mrs Eddie

Welcome to Year Five!

Class Information

There are 22 children in Year Five and the class teacher is Mrs Eddie.  Mrs De Ruiter teaches art on Monday afternoons.

Our Learning

Our topic in the Autumn term is called 'Is it right to fight?' and we will be learning about WW1 and WW2.

Our key questions will be:

* How did WW1 and WW2 start?

* What was life like in the Trenches?

* How were Rainow/Macclesfield affected by the wars?

* What is Remembrance Sunday?

* What was life like for an evacuee?

If you are looking for your next read then there is a list of fiction books related to both world wars here: http://www.lovereading4kids.co.uk/genre/ww1/The-World-Wars.html

Our interpretation of Dulce Et Decorum Est by Wilfred Owen:

Remember to read as often as possible. There is a list of reading recommendations for the Autumn term at the bottom of the page.

As a class, we subscribe to 'The Week Junior' magazine which is always an interesting read.  http://theweekjunior.co.uk/

The TES created a list of the top 100 books that you should read before you leave primary school.  How many of them have you read?  Which will you choose next? https://www.tes.com/news/school-news/breaking-news/100-fiction-books-all-children-should-read-leaving-primary-school-–

There are some more suggestions here: https://www.booksfortopics.com/year-5
