Our Learning

Our topic for the summer term is called 'Home & Away'.  We will be studying and comparing different types of settlements and drawing on what we found out during our residential to Whitby to make contrasts with Macclesfield and Rainow. The outline plan for this topic and the basis for this term's learning can be found below.

During the Spring term, we learnt about 'The Victorians'.  The plan for our learning can be found in the documents below.  We based most of our Literacy learning around the novel 'Street Child' by Berlie Doherty.

Our topic in the Autumn term was called 'Tomb Raiders'.  Watch the video below to find out what we learnt about.

In Literacy, we read 'The Story of Tutankhamun' by Patricia Cleveland-Peck.  We spent the second half-term studying adventure stories which included 'The Red Pyramid' by Rick Riordan, 'Jake Atlas and the Tomb of the Emerald Snake' by Rob Lloyd-Jones and 'The Phoenix Code' by Helen Moss.  After deciding on how authors create this style of novel, we wrote our own action-packed adventure stories based on 'Marcy and the Riddle of the Sphinx' by Joe Todd-Stanton.

Homework is given out on Friday and is due back on the following Thursday.  There will be a piece of maths and literacy homework to complete each week.

Try the games at http://www.wldps.com/gordons/Hit_the_button.swf to practise maths facts against the clock.

We are regularly using http://www.pobble365.com/ in class to inspire us; you could use it at home too to practise.
